Clear The Way for Love

You were created to receive and give love without limit. Fashioned in the image of God and redeemed by Christ, it’s one of your divine super powers: that you will love God and each other with all your heart, soul and strength.

And He loved us with that love first! That’s how we’re able to do what He said - we receive His love and give it away.

That’s pretty freaking cool, if you ask me. We were literally designed to receive unlimited love from the God of the universe and in the same sentence, pour it out like a massive PVC pipe onto every human being around us.

So why don’t we? Why does it seem like, in the midst of professed overflowing love, we are dryer than a sponge in the Sahara, begging for a drop to quench our thirst? It isn’t supposed to be that way and yet, here we are.

Jesus’ command - rather, declaration over our divine purpose - seems almost laughable when you even halfway look at the state of our hearts, manifested in our day-to-day living.

That’s the pits, isn’t it? I mean, it really gets my goat when even the littlest things set me off. When the babiest of looks gets me in a tizzy. When that one person so much as breathes the wrong way and suddenly I’m a million miles from love and can’t find my way home.

I don’t think I’m the only one, and if I am, Lord help me but I’ll be the first to admit, my pipe for receiving God’s love has been clogged for as long as I remember. The craziest part, I had literally no idea. I thought I was experiencing God’s unlimited love and yet I battled a host of loveless manifestations including an eating disorder, an inky thought life, anxiety and intrusive thoughts. All the while, I assumed it was simply normal.

“I am fine.” I’d tell myself. “Everyone deals with this kind of junk…it’s normal.”

And, since only a trickle of love was coming in, you can imagine just how little love was passing on to others.

News flash! Those are symptoms of Love being blocked! They are NOT normal or fine in the Kingdom of God.

Symptoms aren’t evil. They aren’t to be stuffed in the closet, disregarded or avoided at all costs. Anger, irritability, frustration, passiveness, addiction, over-responsibility, hopelessness, compulsions, numbing, confusion, self-hatred, apathy, entitlement, performance, people pleasing, powerlessness, paranoia, obsession, egotism, lack of emotion, perfectionism and trouble forgiving is a short list of what your heart may use to get your attention. Because God created you for love, He also created you with flares - warning signs from you heart - when its not getting the love it requires.

These experiences are not normal in the Kingdom, just like the check engine light in your car isn’t normal. But they also aren’t meant to be avoided or shamed. What if you took that tactic with your check engine light? Nothing would ever get fixed and eventually, your car would break down. Symptoms are meant to get your attention, telling you love is being blocked so you can clear the way for love.

That sounds nice but how?

1. Partner with Jesus and own the authority He’s given you

2. Discover the blockages to love

3. Clear them out

4. Receive and give love at greater and greater capacity

That’s where I am at now. I’ve spent the last ten years of my life partnering with God and clearing the way for His love to get through physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. I recently got certified in a cognitive-somatic therapy as a tool to help others do the same. The truth is, you were created to receive love and if you experience any symptom of that love being blocked, there is something you can do about it. I would be honored to clear the way with you as we journey toward receiving and giving all the love Jesus has made available to us.

Unceded land of the Cheyenne, Ute and Arapahoe tribes — commonly called Denver, Colorado
I recognize and honor the people of the Cheyenne, Ute and Arapahoe tribes as the original and rightful stewards of the land I sit on. I give my respects to Elders past and present. I am grieved by the abuse on human rights committed through colonization and am devoted to doing my part as we look to heal the legacy of trauma that continues to this day.
