Ripples of Transformation: Your Journey is About You and Beyond You

She sat, tears balancing at the edge of her eyes, daring to look at the pain of a long ruptured relationship patched over by years of contorting and coercion all in the name of something worthwhile: survival.

A counterfeited connection — belonging within the confines of the status quo.

But survival and status quo became less and less satisfying as the seeds of Love sprouted new life across the rest of her reality.

Love who confirmed her inherent belonging. Love who settled her striving. Love who honored boundaries. Love who took in her reality and perspective, assuring over and over again, “I get it and I get you. Let’s reorganize this together.”

Committed to her journey, Love now approached the edge of a longstanding chasm. It was impossible to ignore — disorder looks especially stark when surrounded by Life.

Her relationship with him had been strained from almost the very beginning. He was navigating a tough hand and alcohol became both the stabilizer of his misery and the ever growing gap between them.

As the relationship came into view, her many perspectives, concerns, hopes and fears came with it — all welcome, all real. With them in tow, we continued to walk the labyrinth — not to get out but to receive more and more Love through it.

For Love is in the labyrinth and Love is the point.

“I want him to stop drinking. If he doesn’t, I will choose not to be around him.” Her line was drawn and she was prepared to make her realized boundary known.

Little did she know, the ripples of her journey receiving Love went before her, at work long before she arrived. Without her knowing it, as he witnessed and experiencing the changes Love was making in her, it began to create the conditions for change in him and the Coherence Among All Things brought him to the same fork in the road. The same clarity. The same choice: alcohol or relationship.

What good news: Love knows disorder is just a path to reorder as long as you keep walking.

This convergence created the just right conditions for the first layer of repair and a relationship under years of strain took its first breath of air. A gasp so deep, it was disorienting. Like the lifting of a stupor, they each came back into focus.

He chose relationship. And she chose to believe him.

They have a long road to walk with detours guaranteed and now they get to walk it together.

I share this story as a beacon of hope because the reality is, your journey is about you and it’s beyond you.

Unceded land of the Cheyenne, Ute and Arapahoe tribes — commonly called Denver, Colorado
I recognize and honor the people of the Cheyenne, Ute and Arapahoe tribes as the original and rightful stewards of the land I sit on. I give my respects to Elders past and present. I am grieved by the abuse on human rights committed through colonization and am devoted to doing my part as we look to heal the legacy of trauma that continues to this day.
