May we choose to rebel

Six months ago I was sitting with my husband. Gazing out the windows as green leafed lilac bushes waved in the breeze.

Rubbing my belly pump with Life, I peered down as our baby practiced her in utero dance.

These are my favorite kind of moments. The ones spacious enough for my heart to expand and in its opening, a question bubbled up with a response holding onto its heel.

“What do I want our daughter to know about the world?”

“I want her to know the most rebellious thing she can do is slow down and connect.”

As empire breeds efficient dissociation, it’s the rebels who will experience relationship with themselves, others, Nature and Spirit in the way we are designed to.

Let’s rebel though slowing down.

Holding fast to the sacredness of space. Pausing often while talking and walking. Listening to Bird songs. Witnessing and observing with greater acuity. Questioning systems and perceived power. Becoming familiar with boredom. Practicing the skill of single tasking. Enjoying a good meander. Allowing things to unfold. Fortifying your margins. Resting. Making things by hand. Surrendering convenience.

Let’s rebel through connecting.

Attuning to your inner world and body. Sitting with Nature. Feeling feelings. Villaging. Daring to rock the boat. Exercising capacity for stubborn hope. Letting simple things be simple. Letting complex things be complex. Logging off. Playing. Advocating for Life with an adamant spirit. Actively participating in the co-creation of reality. Clearing the way and receiving Love.

Especially this year, may we choose to rebel.

Unceded land of the Cheyenne, Ute and Arapahoe tribes — commonly called Denver, Colorado
I recognize and honor the people of the Cheyenne, Ute and Arapahoe tribes as the original and rightful stewards of the land I sit on. I give my respects to Elders past and present. I am grieved by the abuse on human rights committed through colonization and am devoted to doing my part as we look to heal the legacy of trauma that continues to this day.
