The more I’ve cleared the way for Love in my life, the more connected I’ve become to Nature.

And the more connected to Nature I’ve become, the more I heard about ecocide.

Ecocide is the same as genocide or homicide but instead of murdering humans, we’re murdering the environment and all the living beings in it.

Environmentalists have determined we have five years to address the existential threat before we move beyond tipping points that are irreversible. Not for the generations after us. For you, me and everyone we love.

If that makes your stomach drop, that makes sense. Mine did too.

It is scary and the more I learn, the more concerned and motivated I feel. I kept waiting for someone not paid by an oil company to tell me that it’s not that bad but it hasn’t happened.

So now I’m just left with asking, “What would Love do?”

I recognize I’m a new advocate for the movement and if you’re like I was, you may just not know it’s going on and how bad it really is. So I’m sharing in case it might wake you up too because we are not victims and we have the power to respond.

There are three things I believe everyone needs to know:

One — humans are committing ecocide and it will ultimately make the earth uninhabitable. Though most are participating out of negligence (including myself), there are a number of powerful people perpetrating ecocide deliberately to make money. The number one perpetrator is the oil and gas industry (also known as fossil fuels or ‘natural’ gas).

Two — We, you and me, do not have the luxury of sitting on the sidelines. We have to get in the arena and take tangible and practical action to make the necessary difference. Both as individuals and as a collective. It will require getting uncomfortable through conversations, situations and sacrifices. And it will be worth it.

Three — Our future is made by us. This is not the time to abdicate our ability to respond. We are creating our reality as we experience it and through active participation, we are empowered to co-create a future full of Life and Love on behalf of humans and Nature alike.

If this is at all compelling and you feel overwhelmed by it, I felt that too.

Unceded land of the Cheyenne, Ute and Arapahoe tribes — commonly called Denver, Colorado
I recognize and honor the people of the Cheyenne, Ute and Arapahoe tribes as the original and rightful stewards of the land I sit on. I give my respects to Elders past and present. I am grieved by the abuse on human rights committed through colonization and am devoted to doing my part as we look to heal the legacy of trauma that continues to this day.
